High spirits at Glen Scotia AM-AM

-

Dunaverty Golf Club’s Glen Scotiasponsored AM-AM was deemed ‘a resounding success’, with 35 teams of four and one team of three using a ‘better ball’ format to play in ideal conditions last weekend.

The course was superbly prepared by greenkeepers David Scullion and Campbell MacBrayne.

Early starters J Docherty, R McDonald, D Wallace and L Mathieson got off to a flying start with a nett 22 on the front nine, but a 27 on the back nine brought their nett total to a very creditable 49.

The Lochgilphead quartet of Jamie O’May, Sandy Crawford, Kenny Crawford and Keith Crawford, out in the mid morning, went one better by returning a nett score of 48 which was matched by the team of Calum MacMillan, Willie MacMillan, Gavin McLachlan and Jock McPhee Jnr.

This wasn’t quite enough as the Lochgilphead team took the honours by one stroke, finishing the inward half with a 23 to Calum’s team’s 24.

The club thanked Iain McAlister, manager of Glen Scotia, for sponsoring the event; Alex Arkell and Graeme McLennan for the event’s preparation; Alex for attending to collating the results; Ailie Goddard and her sister Rona, who did a sterling job in providing catering for the competitors; and Susan McLennan and the committee members took care of the raffle.

Spot prizes were awarded at several of the holes.

‘A fabulous day’ and ‘a well organised event on a wonderful course’ were some of the sentiments expressed by many of the players and they look forward to next year’s competition.
