United Auctions, Dalmally, Saturday September 19: sold 3,591 sheep of all classes; 2,575 lambs averaged £51.12 (+£14.16). The 1,666 BF lambs averaged £47.83. An increased entry on the year sold well despite the entry of lambs being of smaller sorts. Averages on the year rose in line with other principal centres and all consignors were satisfied with their returns on the day. Bullocks (205) averaged 268.4p (+48.1p on the year) and sold to 352.9p per kg for a 170kg Limousin cross from 5 Burnside, Argyll, and £945 gross for a pen of 410kg Limousin crosses from Lurignish Farm, Appin. Heifers (160) averaged 257.9p (+67.0p on the year) and sold to 300.0p per kg for a pair of 205kg Simmental crosses from Burnside, Isle of Mull, and £950 gross for a 425kg Limousin cross from Lurignish Farm. Breeding cattle (five) sold to £1,200 gross for a Hereford bull from Ardtornish Farms, Morven. OTM cattle (16) sold to 127.8p per kg and £1,010 gross for an Aberdeen Angus cross from National Trust, Isle of Canna. All classes realised a substantia­l rise on the year. C & D Auction Marts for the Kintyre Agricultur­al Society There was a centre record price and the best ever total at the annual Campbeltow­n sheep sale last Saturday, with the sunny day benefittin­g the outdoor venue. The sale of 120 rams and 510 breeding was organised by C and D Auction Marts of Longtown for the Kintyre Agricultur­al Society. At £900, the top price ram was a Suffolk shearling from Messrs MacIntyre, Glenahervi­e, Southend, which was purchased by N and F McNaughton, Dalmore, Tayinloan. Messrs MacIntyre also sold a Suffolk shearling at £750 to R Millar, High Cattadale. R Millar bought another, at £600, from Thomas Cameron, Gartvaigh, who also sold at £480 and £420. Suffolk shearlings and ram lambs averaged £458. Thomas Cameron, Gartvaigh, also featured in the Bluefaced Lecicester section which he topped with a shearling at £600 to R Millar, who purchased another at £480 from Messrs Semple, Dalbhradda­n. Other Leicesters went to £450, twice, from Kilkeddan. J and M Turner, Killdalloi­g, paid £520 for a Texel shearling from A and J Pirie, Machrihani­sh Farm. I McKendrick, High Dalrioch, sold four Texel shearlings at £420 each with others from Messrs Cairns, Lochside, and High Dalrioch at £400. Texel lambs made to £400 from C McMillan, Low Tirfergus. Jeffrey Parkhouse, Inverae, sold Charollais rams at £420 and £400, twice, and Beltex cross shearlings from R and J Lines, Killocraw, again sold to £420 and £400. Overall, shearlings of all breeds averaged £331 with ram lambs levelling at £222. Breeding females saw the usual strong demand which is a feature of this year’s trade. A nice entry of Blackface gimmers sold to £185 paid by A J Ronald, Coulinlong­art, to M Huysamer, Laggan View, who also sold at £140 with other Blackface gimmers to £150 Brennanlea and £135 High Dalrioch. Mule gimmers from Skernish and Darlochan Yard made £180 with the latter selling Texel gimmers at £155. Ewes sold to £140 from G Gillespie and ewe lambs to £120 from P Grumoli. A reduction of stock Blackfaces from Carskiey Estate sold to £112.
