Emelie’s sponsored walk for Poppy Appeal

-

A two-and-a-half-year-old Campbeltown girl will step out on a sponsored walk to Campbeltown War Memorial to raise funds for year’s Poppy Appeal.

Little Emelie Willis will walk from her home to the war memorial, where she will complete laps of the monument, before returning to her house.

The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign and is held every year in November, during the period of Remembrance.

Emelie’s sponsored walk will take place either on Sunday November 8 or Wednesday November 11, depending on the weather. The challenge means a lot to the tot, as her grandfather, Jackie Willis, who died in April, was in the Royal Irish Rangers and her uncle, Highland Fusilier Lance Corporal Stuart Willis, has just been deployed to Afghanistan. She said: ‘I would like to walk to the soldier bench to make money for soldiers like my Granda Jackie and Uncle Stuarty.’

Emelie’s proud mum Chelsea added: ‘We are still taking sponsors and looking for raffle prizes. If anyone would like to sponsor the following three items, it would be greatly appreciated: a personalised T-shirt, to be worn over her jacket on her walk; a personalised banner or sign to be held for a photograph; and red and black helium balloons to be tied to the soldier bench if it’s not too windy.

‘Full credit will be given for these sponsors and we are happy for the names of the sponsor to be on the items.’
