Neil goes to great lengths to help out worthy cause
A date has been set for Glenbarr farmer Neil MacPhail’s charity hair cut in aid of the Beatson hospital in Glasgow West.
Neil started his treatment in 2017 and was so scared he would lose his hair that he didn’t get it cut after that.
Earlier this year, and once he had finished his treatment, Neil acted on an idea from his good neighbour Peter MacPherson and decided to have his hair cut to raise funds for the Beatson where he has received first-class care. His hair has never been short but it had grown to a long length. He is immensely proud of his locks and this is a great sacrifice but one he feels is worth his anguish. The event has been postponed once or twice due to hospital admissions and lockdown restrictions, but now the ‘shearing’ will be done by Neil’s niece Iona MacPhail of Hair by Iona in Campbeltown this Saturday (December 12). In June this year Neil celebrated his 80th birthday and decided to take ‘early’ retirement from his sheep farm in Glenbarr. He now plans to spend his time with his Clydesdale horses and the contents of his sheds.
Neil’s Just Giving page on Facebook has so far raised £2,580 and he is extremely grateful to everyone who has donated to such a worthy cause. Because he has raised more than £2,000 he has also agreed to shave off his trademark moustache.
