Argyll and Bute Trust keeps on giving
A charitable-giving trust set up 42 years ago to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee is still giving to good causes.
Argyll and Bute Trust has gone from strength to strength over the past four decades, celebrating its ruby anniversary in 2018.
Since it became a charity in 1978, the trust has given out large amounts of money for the benefit of people living in the area.
And the charity is still looking to help more community groups and individuals aspire to achieve their dreams.
Some of its recent projects include helping Feis-naAppianee to buy musical instruments and tuition for the children in Appin Primary School.
A pupil from Dunoon Grammar School got help to achieve a place in the Olympic Sailing team while students from Taynuilt were able to take part in the World Challenge Orienteering Championship in Croatia.

Help was provided for Dervaig Community Orchard in Mull and a first aid group on the island was kitted out.
‘We have also supported and helped the building and completion of a community skiff in Appin.
‘Going further afield, we supported senior pupils from Dunoon to travel to Nova Scotia Canada for a two-week immersion course in Gaelic and education,’ said the trust’s current chairman Robert Campbell-Preston.
He added: ‘It was thought that the trust would last for a short time, however, due to great commitment from the early trustees and those who have followed, it has gone from strength to strength.
‘The aim of the trust is to help all communities and students in Argyll and Bute; for individuals to aspire to their dreams; for those who need help with physical, mental and spiritual welfare; for disabled and disadvantaged residents; for community projects, facilities for recreation and other leisure occupations. We are here to help.’
Over 10 years, in the run-up to 2018, the trust paid out nearly £56,000.
On average it gives out about £6,000 every year.
To help distribute funds the trust now has representatives all over the Argyll and Bute area from Oban to Coll and Tiree and out to Dunoon and Kintyre.
