Campbeltown’s future tennis stars?
Tennis coach Judy Murray OBE has written in her Sunday Post column that she ‘wouldn't be surprised if the next Jamie or Andy Murray comes from Campbeltown', writes Hannah O'Hanlon.
It comes after the former professional tennis player and mother of Jamie and Sir Andy Murray, two of Scotland's most successful tennis stars, travelled to Kintyre last week to deliver coaching sessions.
Judy was joined by Laura Middleton, a fellow coach and Judy Murray Foundation trustee.
The pair began by hosting two workshops at Dalintober Primary School where additional support needs (ASN) assistant Mairi Campbell works.
Mairi was responsible for the visit after tagging Judy in a Tweet about the school's extra-curricular tennis activities, pupil equity and opportunities.
In the morning, Judy and Laura led a session with adults including primary and secondary teachers, student sports leaders, Active School staff, volunteers from Campbeltown Lawn Tennis Club (CLTC) and parents and grandparents.
In the early afternoon, they coached Dalintober's P4 and ASN pupils alongside children from Glenbarr Primary School.
After school, they headed to CLTC where they worked with members of Dalintober's extra-curricular tennis club.
In the early evening, CLTC's junior members and their parents attend a session together.
A CLTC spokesperson said: ‘Judy had lots of tips to encourage parents playing with their children and coached some basic tennis skills.
‘It was tremendous fun, especially when water bombs were involved.'
