The Heart of the Community Award

Nominations for the first three categories, Young Person of the Year, Community Group of the Year and Service with a Smile, have already been made and, this week, it is time for the next three: Role Model of the Year, Exceptional Achievement of the Year and Small Business of the Year.

Open to people aged between 16 and 24 years, the Role Model of the Year Award will recognise a young person who is a positive role model for their peers and others around them. The award will go to someone who works hard, looks out for others and is working on achieving their goals and dreams.

The Exceptional Achievement of the Year Award will recognise someone who has achieved something exceptional over the past year and could go to someone who has overcome major health issues, who is excelling at school or university or in their job. They could have raised large sums of money for charity or a community cause.

The Small Business of the Year Award will go to a small business which, despite the pandemic, carried on working to help the community.

Many business owners were unable to keep their shops open but this award recognises the hard-working businesses that kept going and faced the public even when the rest couldn’t.

The Springbank Distillerysponsored awards are being judged by Cheryl, South Kintyre councillor John Armour and Campbeltown Courier reporter Hannah O’Hanlon.

Nominations for the latest categories can be made until Monday July 5 at 9am via Cheryl’s Facebook page.

Only one person for each category can be nominated by commenting on the post on Cheryl’s page.

They must state who they are nominating and include a message to say why the nominee deserves to win the particular award. Nominations made without a justification will not be considered. Voting will re-open on Monday for the next categories which will be announced that day. All nominees will be revealed once all category details have been announced.
