Excitement builds for Pupils’ new season

-

Things just got real for Campbeltown Pupils Amateur Football Club in the West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) with the release of the club’s fixture list for the new season.

The Pupils open their WoSFL Division Four campaign at home to Kilsyth Athletic, a community club from the North Lanarkshire town, on Saturday July 17. This is followed by a midweek trip to St Peter’s, an under-21s side from Paisley, on Wednesday July 21.

Then, on July 24, the Feathers Inn-sponsored Pupils will host the development team of BSC Glasgow, whose senior side plays in the Lowland League, Scotland’s fifth tier.

Campbell Robertson, Pupils secretary, said: ‘We’re really looking forward to the new season. It’s a fresh challenge and a great opportunity for the club. The players have been working hard in training and, off the field, work has been ongoing to get our facilities ready for the new season.

‘The pitch at Kintyre Park has been vertidrained and topdressed with sand during the past couple of weeks and we’d like to thank our sponsors McFadyens Contractors for its huge assistance on that project.

‘Building work is nearing completion, too, with the pavilion exterior finished and the interior work getting close.

‘Our facilities need to meet specific WoSFL criteria so we’ve also done a lot of work to revamp the dugouts and technical areas. Thanks go to Buildbase in Campbeltown for its help.’

The club are keen to get supporters cheering on the team all season long with the launch of their season ticket scheme.

Campbell said: ‘We are a very well-supported club and we would like to encourage those who come to watch our games to get involved in our new season ticket scheme.

‘An adult season ticket is £40 for our 14 home matches plus any home cup games during the season. It’s £30 for OAPs and under-16s go free.

‘Buying a season ticket would really help the club ensure a strong support at home matches and would help us to meet the additional running costs involved in this season, both in the initial work before the season starts and when it gets under way with fulfilling a 28-game calendar, meaning five more away league games than before.’

Those interested in joining the Pupils’ season ticket scheme should contact club secretary Campbell Robertson, Campbeltown Football on Facebook or @PupilsAFC on Twitter.

The Pupils’ fixture list can be found on the WosFL website – wosfl.co.uk/calendar/division-four-fixtures/ – with the league played in four blocks of seven matches, allowing a champion to be declared, if restrictions demand, before all fixtures have been played.
