Next categories unveiled in Campbeltown awards

Details of the next three categories in the Spirit of Campbeltown Awards have been revealed.

Created by Campbeltown woman Cheryl Brown to honour the unsung heroes who have gone above and beyond for the community throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, the awards will recognise the efforts of people across 12 categories:

Service with a Smile Young Person of the Year Community Group of the Year

Role Model of the Year Exceptional Achievement of the Year

Small Business of the Year Volunteer of the Year Helping Hand Award Educator of the Year Tradesman of the Year Keyworker of the Year The Heart of the Community Award

Nominations for the first six categories – Young Person of the Year, Community Group of the Year, Service with a Smile, Role Model of the Year, Exceptional Achievement of the Year and Small Business of the Year – have already been made and, this week, it is time for the next three: Volunteer of the Year, Helping Hand Award and Educator of the Year.

The Volunteer of the Year Award will go to someone who gives up their time to help young, old and/or vulnerable people in the area.

Helping

They should be someone who works hard and does an amazing job and is always helping those who need it most.

The Helping Hand Award will honour someone who always looks out for others and gives the people who need it most a little helping hand. They could be a good neighbour, a friend or a loved one.

The Educator of the Year Award will go to an educator who helps the community's youngsters grow and thrive in school.

The pandemic made school life very different and difficult for so many, but our teachers were there to help us mums, dads and carers do what they could to make sure Campbeltown’s children didn't miss out on learning and this award will recognise that.

The Springbank Distillerysponsored awards are being judged by Cheryl, South Kintyre councillor John Armour and Campbeltown Courier reporter Hannah O'Hanlon.

Nominations for the latest categories can be made until Monday July 12 at 9am via Cheryl's Facebook page.

People can nominate just one person for each category by commenting on the post on Cheryl’s page.

They must state who they are nominating and include a message to say why the nominee deserves to win the particular award.

Nominations made without a justification will not be considered.

Voting will then re-open on Monday for the final three categories which will be announced that day.

The names of all nominees will be revealed once all category details have been announced.
