free show for school children then the sold-out Eddi Reader show before the first lockdown so we have never really been able to get things going,’ said Lesley Norris from WKP.

‘We spent much of lockdown supporting our community and working with the church group in Clachan and Clachan Filling Station to deliver groceries and provide face coverings and packs with sanitiser for those venturing out for the first time after the lockdowns.

A community interest company set up just before lockdown has been given the green light to start promoting live entertainment in Kintyre again.

The fun is due to start on August 6 when West Kintyre Promotions (WKP) brings the five-star-rated Watch Closely Show from Billy Reid, described as Scotland’s number one magician, to Tarbert Village Hall.

Later in the month, popular children’s theatre group The McDougalls will bring their new Big Splash show to the village.

Both shows were in the books before the pandemic and after a few false starts, it looks like they will finally see the light of day.

‘We had only just started the community interest company and had already delivered a raised more than £1,000 from donations which was split between Kilcalmonell Church and Clachan Village Hall.

‘It was a really worrying time for everyone and hopefully we managed to do a bit to help, particularly the most vulnerable in our community.

‘But we are ready to get back to entertainment. I think we all need a wee lift.’

The initial shows will be held with a reduced capacity and there will be Covid secure protocols in place, including enhanced cleaning, sanitising stations and increased ventilation, so audiences feel comfortable.

Original tickets for the performances are valid and remaining tickets are on sale at Clachan Filling Station and Kintyre Electrical.
