Vandals wreak havoc in Dalintober school grounds
Police, members of the community and Argyll and Bute Council are working together to find the criminal(s) who damaged equipment in the grounds of Dalintober Primary School last week.
The lowly vandal or vandals targeted the school between Wednesday June 30 and Sunday July 11, when objects, including a child’s bike, were senselessly smashed up.
Sergeant Matthew Shaw, of Lochgilphead police station, said: ‘We received a report on Sunday July 11 in connection with vandalism within the grounds of Dalintober Primary School.
‘This included damage to child’s bike, a bench, a playhouse and a shed door. Plant pots were also pushed over.
‘This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated and enquiries are ongoing to find those responsible.
‘Anyone with information that could help with our enquiries should get in touch.
‘Officers are committed to tacking all anti-social behaviour.
‘We do this by engaging with communities and remaining visible as well as carrying out regular patrols.
‘We are urging parents and guardians to be aware of where their children are going and discourage them from becoming involved in disorder.’
After reading the devastating news on the Dalintober Primary School and ELC Facebook page, pupils, parents and staff turned out to help tidy up the mess.
The page administrator wrote afterwards: ‘Thanks to all for all the supportive comments, messages and offers of help.
‘It is really appreciated and epitomises the pride I have in us as a true community school.’
A council spokesperson said: ‘Staff, pupils and parents at Dalintober primary are very proud of their school and this senseless act of vandalism has caused the community considerable distress.
‘We are working closely with Police Scotland to find those responsible and we would urge everyone in the area to be vigilant and, if they see anyone behaving in a suspicious or malicious manner, report the matter to the police immediately.’
