● WINNER DRUMMOHR CAMPING & GLAMPING SITE
OUR VERDICT For anyone who loves exploring the UK, a trip to Edinburgh needs to be ticked off the list – the combination of historic buildings, royal connections and world-famous attractions makes for a great getaway. Located only 10 miles from the city centre, Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site is the perfect choice, and it would seem that Camping readers agree, as this
East Lothian coastal site has been voted as Campsite of the Year in our annual awards.
That’s right – you can combine a visit to the city of Edinburgh with sandy beaches and rugged coastline, thanks to Drummohr’s prime position. The coast is just half a mile away and a sandy beach less than three miles. A golf course is right next door to the site and the city’s park and ride service is less than a mile – this surely is an ideal location!
Beautifully landscaped, in the grounds of a former monastery, Drummohr is sheltered by trees on all sides and offers a choice of grass and hardstanding tent and touring pitches, all with electric, some fully serviced. There are two toilet and shower blocks with underfloor heating, in addition to a laundry room, dishwashing area, and family bathrooms/ accessible facilities. The campers’ kitchen has a microwave and a hot drinks machine. The site also has a shop, free WiFi, a children’s play area and a designated dog walking area through the adjacent woodland.
Nearby Prestonpans has a supermarket, a few shops and places to eat and is just over a mile away. Also close by is Musselburgh, which you can walk or cycle to along the shores of the Firth of Forth. In this larger town you’ll find a wider selection of shops and supermarkets, a racecourse, a theatre, a beach and harbour, and you can also enjoy riverside walks.
