Peugeot 206 1.9 diesel
Featuring the Lucas DWLC12 management system.
Peugeot’s 206 was introduced in 1998 and, during the following years, was sold in three- and five-door hatchback forms, as an innovative coupé cabriolet (206CC) and as a five-door estate (206SW). It was available with a choice of petrol engines, plus the PSA Group’s venerable, dependable and well-trusted 1.9-litre diesel unit. It continued in production until 2010 and remains popular, not least due to its practicality and dependability, especially compared with some of its successors.
Our guinea pig car is a three-door version, first registered in October 2000 and powered by the naturally-aspirated 1868cc DW8 series engine, which was used in this model until 2004.
The vehicle is equipped with a Lucas DWLC12
management system. Although this is relatively simple by today’s standards, it was modern in its time and incorporates a number of sensors that feed information to the ECU to aid performance, emissions and fuel consumption. As a result, the 206 has always been well-respected for its economy and the infrequent stops required to refuel.
Our guide to this model’s engine and its system is Edward Haggar, a master technician with Kwik Fit.
