ABS failure

-

When this 1999 Renault Megane was booked in for an ABS problem we expected it would probably be a failed sensor. However, when the vehicle arrived, we decided to quickly check the reluctor ring before condemning the sensor. This proved to be a good move as at least half of the reluctor ring had corroded so badly that it had come away from the drive joint.

Although new reluctor rings are available for around £10, the drive boot on the shaft had also perished – with a replacement shaft costing £50, it seemed prudent to replace the whole shaft. This meant we didn’t have to waste time cleaning off the old reluctor ring and drive joint before fitting a new ring, cutting down on labour and speeding up the turnaround. Once the new shaft was fitted, the Renault was given a quick test-drive to confirm the ABS was fully operational.
