Corroded brake pipe

-

This 1998 Honda CR-V was doing pretty well for its age. The MOT only picked up a couple of corroded brake pipes at the rear and these should have been quite easy to replace. Unfortunately, as is often the case with older vehicles, rust can complicate matters. The corroded brake pipes were not going to release easily, and although we were lucky enough to undo the wheel cylinder end of the pipe, the brake hose end was not going to shift.

Our next concern was whether the other end of the hose would come undone, which it did, thankfully.

Replacing the hoses was not too much of a disaster at only £7 a hose, and given the condition of the ferules it was probably a good move anyway. Once the new pipes and hoses were fitted, the brake hydraulic system was bled and then the pressure held on the pedal to ensure everything was leak-free.

?? ?? The corroded brake pipes were firmly rusted into the hoses, which also needed replacing.
