ROOF

-

The roof in many vehicles can sound like a large metal biscuit tin lid when you tap it with your fingers. While this sort of noise isn’t directly generated during driving, it can mean that road and engine noise and panel vibration can be transmitted through it. Fitting soundproofing to the underside of the roof can reduce noise levels. However, this is only possible with vehicles where the headlining can be easily removed.

Vans such as the Volkswagen range of Transporters are supported by a number of specialists who have developed soundproofing kits for the roof. Jaguars ranging from the XJ40/X300 to the XK8 all suffer from sagging headlining, which is fixed by fitting a new headlining panel, providing the ideal opportunity to soundproof the underside of the roof at the same time.
