PROGRAMMING A NEW KEY-FOB

-

Our new key-fob from Toyota cost £84.19 and needed to be reprogrammed by Five Star Autocentre. Each key-fob includes a small emergency key attached to the side, which can be used to unlock and lock the doors in the event of the central locking failing or the key-fob’s battery going flat. Our new one fitted perfectly, which means the locks haven’t been changed.

We plugged the diagnostic equipment into our Prius and checked how many keys were registered. Prior to ordering the spare, we only had one, but two were registered, so we removed the one we no longer have as a security measure. While the new key-fob is being programmed, a red car-shaped security symbol flashes on the dash. Once the new key was registered and programmed, we checked it on the screen of the diagnostic equipment and also tested it by driving the Prius, then locking and unlocking using the new fob.
