NEW WHEEL TRIMS

-

When we bought our Prius, one of the wheel trims was missing and the remaining three were scuffed. The standard alloy wheels didn’t look much better, with peeling paint and oxidation. The cheapest solution was to buy a full set of universal wheel trims for under £30, so we chose a set from a vast selection on ebay. We also spent an additional £2.99 on a set of four Toyota centre cap stickers. Sadly, despite the fact that the ebay ad stated that the wheel trims could be fitted onto a Prius, it also said they were suitable for steel wheels. When we offered up one of the trims against an alloy wheel on our Prius, we could clearly see it wasn’t going to fit. These alloy wheels are equipped with Toyota wheel trims, which clip between the spokes of the wheels, so universal trims cannot be fitted as they are designed to clip around the rim.

We contacted our local Toyota dealership to get the price of replacement genuine wheel trims. This may be the best solution – although a single wheel trim costs £34.78, which is more than the entire set of four we bought through ebay! If we buy a full set of new wheel trims from Toyota, it’s roughly the same price as having all of the alloy wheels refurbished.
