Diagnostic code

-

My car is a 2009 SEAT Leon FR 170bhp diesel and my diagnostic reader is showing fault code ‘P0546, high bank 1 sensor 1’. Could you tell me which one this is and where it is located? It seems that SEAT dealers don’t know – or are reluctant to tell me! Stuart Boddye

The error code ‘P0546’ equates to ‘Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit High’. The sensor itself is located in the base of the turbocharger and is quite tricky to access.

Ensure the engine and manifold is cold before starting the job. The retaining screw for the sensor is accessed from below and the connection comes around the turbo heat shield and is connected at the top. When fitting the new sensor, torque it to 45Nm and ensure that the angled rod sits correctly in the supporting bracket.

Before condemning the sensor itself, however, I would first check the wiring and connector. Given the area the wire runs through, it is possible it has moved and been burned on the body of the turbo.
