Air filter change
I have a 2011 Renault Clio 1.5 dci with 33,000 miles on the clock and full service history. Recently, I changed the air filter for a Bosch aftermarket item, after which the check engine light illuminated and the code ‘P0101 Mass Air Flow’ was indicated. I reset this, but it came back and both times it activated at motorway speeds. Is this due to the new air filter? The car otherwise starts and runs as normal. Trevor Edwards The air sensor cleaning spray The code ‘P0101’ indicates that the sensor is not within the permitted range. This may be due to airflow restrictions, but I would expect a Bosch filter to be an acceptable replacement. I would check that none of the inlet system pipes or vacuum hoses were dislodged during the air filter replacement, and that none of the pipes or hoses are fractured. If all appears to be in good order then it is possible that dirt has been dislodged and I would try cleaning the MAF sensor. This can be done with isopropyl alcohol or a dedicated cleaner such as this: http://bit.ly/1mfhluu
When cleaning a MAF sensor it is important to use a fluid that does not leave a residue and to ensure the hot wire is completely dry before attempting to start the vehicle. Care must be taken not to damage the hot wire, so if you’re not using an aerosol then a light clean with a cotton bud will suffice.
