Be prepared
When replacing the clutch on the C2, as with many front-wheel drive vehicles, it is necessary to be able to work from beneath the car, such as when removing and refitting the driveshafts. This necessitates partial dismantling of the front suspension/steering set-up and there’s always the possibility of damaging parts such as the balljoint gaiters when disassembling the suspension and using a conventional balljoint separator tool. If you take this route – although there is an alternative; more about this later – it pays to be one step ahead and to order new gaiters or even balljoints in advance of the work. You may be able to obtain such items on a sale-or-return basis so long as the parts are returned in as-new condition, thus only incurring a nominal handling charge.
The C2 here is a petrol model dating from 2006. If your Citroën is earlier or later and/or has a different engine or transmission, consult the official workshop manual relating to your specific model for possible variations and data specific to your car.
