UNDERSIDE INSPECTION

-

15 DROPLINKS With anti-roll bars at the front and rear of the A4, the droplinks can be checked from underneath by grabbing hold of each one and attempting to waggle it. Any play may be a sign of wear in one of the droplink’s balljoints, which could also result in a rattle when the vehicle is being driven. 16 BUSH CHECKS With the vehicle raised on a two-post ramp, many of the suspension bushes on the A4 can be checked at all four corners using a pry bar. If you don’t have use of a ramp, then either an inspection pit, ramps or axle stands can be used instead. 17 CHECK COIL SPRINGS Visually inspect the rear coil springs, looking for signs of excessive corrosion and fractures. The front coil springs aren’t so easy to inspect from underneath the vehicle, but can be checked when the brakes are being serviced (see Step 26).
