Speedometer inoperative

-

I have a 2006 Ford Fusion 1.6 diesel with 108,000 miles and I’ve just noticed that my speedometer is not working. How can I fix it? Gino Pinar The most likely reason for your non-functioning speedo is the vehicle speed sensor located just above the offside driveshaft output. This would also cause the odometer to stop recording mileage. If the odometer is still recording mileage, then the sensor will not be the problem.

The gauge itself does have a selftest feature and here are the steps to access it. With the ignition off, push in and hold the trip button. While holding in the button, turn the ignition switch to position ‘ll’ and the word ‘test’ should appear in the odometer display. The system will then go through a series of tests, the second one being a sweep of all the gauges. If the speedometer does not move at this point, it will be the speedometer itself at fault. The self-test mode can be stopped at any time by turning off the ignition.
