Tales from the Workshop

-

This 2001 Volvo S60 2.0 petrol had been suffering from an intermittent problem with its tickover for a fair while. The fault had now developed further and engine power was reduced, accompanied by a ‘Reduced Power’ warning on the dash. A quick read of the fault codes confirmed the problem as lying in the electronic throttle body. This is a known fault with the Volvo and the owner agreed that the throttle body should be sent off for repair.

The throttle body is hidden from view under the inlet manifold, which needs to be removed to access it. After disconnecting the metal fuel pipe and induction hoses, the manifold can be unbolted and then the waterway union and a couple of vacuum hoses can be detached to allow the manifold to be manoeuvred around the petrol pipe and off. It is then a simple job to disconnect the throttle body connecting plug and undo its four securing bolts.

?? ?? Once the manifold has been lifted away, the throttle body can be accessed and removed.
Once the manifold has been lifted away, the throttle body can be accessed and removed.
