Window regulator replacement

-

How hard is it to fit a complete window mechanism into the driver’s side door on my 2001 Ford Puma? Steve Cloke Once the door trim panel has been removed, the job is quite straightforward. First, the glass clamp bolts need to be loosened, to allow the glass to be lifted away from the mechanism. Once separated, the drop glass should be lifted up to the top of the window channel and secured in position – this can be done by jamming it with cardboard or using tape to fix it in place.

The mechanism itself is secured to the door with rivets and these need to be drilled out before removing the regulator. The electrical plug for the window motor should be disconnected and the motor securing nuts removed. The whole assembly can then be manoeuvred out of the door.

Fitting the new unit is the same process in reverse, but new rivets will be needed to secure the regulator to the door. Ensure the drop glass slides smoothly in the channels before reconnecting.
