Despite the hardware appearing better built than the Clarke CEOBDPRO, particularly the superior screen design and extra rubber protective cladding, the main extra feature is its ability to connect to a printer, so that hard copies of print test results can be produced. Like both the Clarke and Foxwell NY414, the Laser 5091 can be connected to a PC, either for free updates or as an auxiliary power source. Unfortunately, the 5091 inherits the Clarke’s foible of too short an EOBD connector lead that cannot be removed. While it is difficult to see why Laser’s official RRP is double that of the Clarke and higher than the superior Foxwell NT414 (even though the updates are free for life), we have noted that some stockists offer this unit for considerably less money – only then does this tool become a competitive proposition.
