Combining all the features of Tyrepal Solar4’s head-unit, albeit with a slightly clearer display at the expense of no real-time air temperature readouts (although a fixed 80°C warning is pre-set), it has internal sensors that offer superior dependability and security to external types. While Steelmate’s TP-S1I was the least expensive internal sensor TPMS system tested, the sensors and head-unit look classy, its pressure calibration was perfect, and low/high pressure visual and audible warnings are clear, fast-acting and consistent, as are indications of sudden deflations. Thoughtfully, spare valve caps are provided. The screen is also highly responsive and, like the Tyrepal system, becomes back-lit automatically in dim ambient conditions.

The TP-S1I might not offer any specific innovations but it wins our test due to it being the best all-round performer. It combines internal sensors with ease of use, excellent pressure accuracy and well-designed warnings, all of which are balanced against a competitive price.
