No current at starter solenoid

-

My 2002 Volvo V70 estate petrol automatic will not start. The starter and battery are fine, but there is no current evident at the starter solenoid terminal when the ignition is turned. There is also no response in either ‘Park’ or ‘Neutral’ on the gear selector. No fault codes are stored.

If the ignition key is faulty, does this affect the starter circuit? How do we test the ignition key? John When you say there is no current at the starter solenoid terminal, I assume you are talking about the low current activating terminal. If so, give this terminal its own separate 12V feed to see if the engine then cranks and starts. Tell me the result and we will take it from there. I tried this and the engine cranks but does not start. John

Here are the Autodata instructions for checking the immobiliser. The system arms five seconds after switching off the ignition. 1) Switch on the ignition. 2) Ensure the clock LED illuminates for 3-5 seconds. 3) If the LED flashes at regular intervals for approximately one minute then the key code is not recognised. 4) Remove the key. Wait for five seconds and try again. 5) Programming is needed when a key is added or replaced. Replacement keys can only be programmed using diagnostic equipment. Thank you so much! It was a key fault. John
