Despite its unadorned plastic moulding, plus the crinkled and peeling side stickers not helping with the initial quality impressions of our test sample, the basic specifications and performance are entirely satisfactory. Like the other helmets on test, the side-mounted shade switch is infinitely variable along its calibrated scale, which also features a ‘grind’ function. The solar-powered auto-darkening filter mechanism unclips easily from the inside, allowing straightforward access to the clear spatter protection lens. Usefully, it also boasts an internal bracket for prescription lenses and is the lightest helmet on test, which lessens the risk of neck strain. The testers were less impressed with the head-strap – one of them found it uncomfortable, being too tight across his temples. All testers also disliked the clicking sounds as the helmet was lifted and lowered over their faces.
