WHEEL BEARING ADJUSTMENT

-

We had detected a little play in the 1

nearside front wheel bearing in the last issue, so we wanted to see if the play could be taken up. First, the hubcap had to be removed using a pry bar. The hub nut is secured with a 6mm 2 Allen key pinch bolt, so this had to be undone before the nut could be tightened. Tools should not be used on the hub nut. 3 It should only be finger-tightened to take up any play, after which the road wheel is refitted. Rocking the wheel with our hands, we found the play had been eliminated.

?? ?? With the coolant topped up, we fitted a new pressure cap from 4 Febi, allowing the engine coolant to warm up further and pressurise. We checked the level again later, once the engine and coolant were cold.

?? ?? We poured a 50:50 mixture of Febi’s G12++ coolant into the 3 header tank. After almost six litres, the header tank was full, so we ran the engine, allowed it to warm up, then topped up the coolant.
