BOOST PRESSURE
Increasing the boost pressure on a turbocharged engine is a popular modification and feasible on some engines by adjusting the wastegate actuator (the wastegate prevents the turbo creating too much boost pressure) or by fitting an aftermarket adjustable wastegate actuator. If the wastegate linkage is adjustable, a few extra psi of boost can be gained by shortening it in some cases. The boost pressure should be measured to see if it has been effectively increased (see Monitoring on page 49 for details on gauges).
Another method of adjusting the boost pressure is to fit a bleed valve, or if an electronic boost control is fitted to an engine then the boost pressure can be adjusted through mapping the ECU. This is one of the easiest methods of increasing boost pressure and is feasible on many modern engines. Aftermarket electronic boost controls are also available.
