LARGER INJECTORS

-

Increasing the airflow generated by the turbo often requires the fuelling to also be increased – there’s no point having extra air, but no fuel to burn. In some cases, larger injectors are required. Such modifications will inevitably require a remap of the ECU. Dark Ice Designs recommends fitting Rover SD1 injectors to the L-series engine (as used in the Rover 200/400) for around £250, or they can be sourced from the Rover 200-600 diesels.

This modification requires the boost pressure to be increased to around 19psi to give the extra air needed to burn the extra fuel. Exhaust smoke can increase with these uprated injectors, especially in off-boost conditions, but they have found this can be resolved by blanking off the EGR valve and fitting a Digimafam with a low-gain MAF sensor and having the ECU remapped.
