LARGER PLENUMS
The airflow through a plenum is important to ensure the forced induction of turbocharging performs efficiently. Several specialists have developed their own billet plenum chambers, which use ram-style internal trumpets (velocity stack runners or VSR for short). The VSRS feature smoother internal edges, which provide greater airflow than angled edges. The larger plenum provides a greater supply of air than a standard set-up, so the engine doesn’t become starved. This design of internal trumpet has a similar effect to a ram pipe and helps to spool up the turbo more gradually, which in the case of high revs and peak power is essential to maintaining performance and airflow. It’s essential for turbo applications where the standard plenum provides too much restriction.
