Air-conditioning query

The aircon has stopped working in my 2000 Astra 1.6 16v. When you push the button, the cooling fan at the radiator comes on and you can see a slight dip in rpm. After about 10 seconds, the fan stops, there’s another blip on the rev counter and that’s it. Is it completely knackered or is there hope? Alan Hayes As the aircon system goes through the process of starting the cooling fan and the engine speed dips to indicate a load on the engine, the most likely possibilities are that either the system pressure sensor or connections have failed, or else the system pressure has dropped and needs recharging. If you have not had the system regassed for some time it would certainly be worth getting this carried out first. Kwik Fit are currently advertising a ‘Recharge or No Charge’ service, which may be an offer worth taking up.
