Gearbox overfill

-

I have a 2008 Renault Laguna Mk3 2.0-litre diesel dci, with the engine type M9R and the PK4 gearbox. I decided to change my gearbox oil as the car has now done 95,000 miles. This turned out to be pretty easy once I found out the type of oil – Tranself NFP 75W80 – which is available on ebay.

Having read the letter titled 'Correct procedure' (Your Letters, CM, June 2014), I have concerns that I have overfilled the gearbox, as after filling it with 2.5 litres, I allowed it to drain to plug level. Apparently, I may need a dipstick as the gearbox works off ‘oil fling’. The letter does state that it’s referring to the PK6 gearbox, but I’m worried in case the PK4 gearbox might have the same ‘oil fling’ method. Alan Poole The capacity for the PK4 gearbox is 2.4 litres and the oil level instructions from Renault are to fill it to the level bung. The specified oil is, as you say, Tranself NFP 75w80 or Tranself TRX 75w80. Provided the level is up to the filler/level bung, it will be correct.
