Cold start problem

-

I have a problem starting my 2002 Volvo S80 2.4 turbo when cold. It cranks over for a while, then seems to miss and then cranks again. It will start eventually. It’s showing the warning message: ‘Reduced engine performance’. I plugged in a diagnostic reader and it shows ‘RPM sensor fault’. I replaced the crank sensor and the plug and wiring all look OK, but the fault is still there. Stuart Neely Although the crank sensor may be affecting your cold starting, this problem is normally associated with starting the vehicle when the engine is warm. My first check would be the engine temperature sensor – this is the most common cause of cold-start problems such as yours.

I would also check the air temperature sensor located in the induction system at the front of the engine. Depending on the diagnostic plug-in you are using, you may be able to confirm that these sensors are reading correctly.
