Typical Vauxhall Corsa components
1
At the heart of the Corsa’s electrical system is the battery, which needs to be maintained in tip-top condition, fully charged and with clean, secure terminals, for the engine management system to function properly.
2
Adjacent to the left-hand inner wing, behind the headlamp and normally protected by a plastic cover (removed for this photo to be taken) is the vitally important underbonnet fuse and relay box. Ensure that the lid is correctly refitted to keep out moisture.
3
It is not always appreciated that there is an additional relay box on these Corsas, located just behind the main underbonnet rear bulkhead on the left-hand side of the engine compartment. Again, make sure the protective lid is correctly fitted.
4
Positioned low down right at the front of the engine is the low-pressure turbocharger. For reliable operation in the long term, it is essential that the engine oil and filter are renewed frequently; dirty oil can result in turbocharger bearing problems.
5
This is the combined diesel pump/ecu assembly. The two units are linked by soldered contacts. By working very carefully, the two units can be separated and the connections resoldered on reassembly – not for casual tinkering though!
