Common denominator

My brother has a 2006 Nissan Micra K12 1.2 petrol with 56,000 miles and which has not been used for a while, resulting in a flat battery. I volunteered to help fit a new battery, but we were hit with the following codes: ‘P1122 electric throttle control actuator function’, ‘P0031’, ‘P0113 IAT sensor’, ‘P0107 MAP sensor’, ‘P0223 Throttle position sensor’, ‘P0123’ and ‘P1171 Intake error’. Is there a common denominator with these codes? I tried clearing them, but they came back right away. There were no codes until the battery was replaced and the engine starts and appears to run fine. David Welsh

The one common denominator is that all of the codes may refer to electrical connection problems. With this in mind, and as the codes were not present before the fitting of the new battery, I would first ensure that the connections at both of the battery terminals are good and clean. As the vehicle starts and runs OK, there is probably not a problem in this area, but it’s still worth a check before moving on.

As the vehicle has not been used for a while, the next check I would make is to the connection from the multi-plug to the ECU. It would be worth removing and spraying this with an electrical cleaner as it is possible there is corrosion in this area.

All of the codes excluding the ‘P0031 (oxygen sensor)’ relate to inlet system errors. With this in mind, I would test the operation of the throttle body. Even though the engine appears to run without problems, try using a carb cleaner spray to ensure that the throttle butterfly is moving freely. The Micra does suffer with throttle body issues, but as your brother’s vehicle is running smoothly, I would not suspect this to be a problem.
