REMOVING THE ORIGINAL TURBO
1 Judging by the noise from the turbo and the lack of power from the engine, we suspected the turbo needed replacing. Autovaux manage to source a remanufactured GM turbo for a reasonable £438.
2 The turbo is located at the front of the engine bay. After detaching a small heatshield, we made a start on removing the 16mm bolt for the clamp that secures the exhaust downpipe to the turbine housing.
3 The clamp proved difficult to detach. Luckily, we had a new one from Autovaux, so we prised the old one open with a couple of pry bars. It still refused to budge, so we resolved to try again later.
