Plastic trim valeting

-

I read your excellent article on Valeting on a Budget in the July 2017 issue. Has your team any advice on cleaning/refurbishing the grey plastic mouldings and bumpers that were used on early Land Rover Freelanders? The plastic tends to become discoloured, pale and patchy and I have been unable to find any product that will restore it.

The product Black Wow as used in the article is actually suitable for any colour of plastic trim. After first cleaning the trim with Pre Wow, then using the Black Wow, you should be able to bring back the original colour. If the trim is severely faded, the first application may bleed into the plastic and appear to have not made a difference. If this happens use a second coat and, once the plastic is saturated, the original colour should be returned and should last for months. There are other products on the market such as Back For Good, made by Spautopia, but this is not one I have tested.

With any treatment of this type, it is very important that the plastic is thoroughly cleaned and dried before applying the restorer. Any dirt left on the plastic will cause the end result to be patchy.
