Converting headlamps for LHD

-

I would welcome your advice regarding the headlights on my grandson’s 2013 Ford Fiesta 1.5 TDCI. He is shortly to move to Germany and will have to convert the headlights for LHD. Enquiries so far have indicated that the complete headlight units will have to be replaced, at considerable cost. However, I’ve heard that it is possible to remove the light unit, extract the dip beam bulb and access a small clip which can be moved to alter the angle of the unit. Is this possible or will he have to purchase new headlights? Roy Avery

If your grandson’s Fiesta has the projector beam-type lamps, it is possible to adjust them as you describe. This type of headlamp has a frosted lens that focuses the bulb. If the bulb can be seen, then the vehicle does not have projector beam bulbs, and it is possible to mask the headlamp to prevent the beam from dazzling drivers when driving on the other side of the road.

If the projector beam lamps are fitted, the adjustment is to remove the back cover to the headlamp. On the inside edge of the reflector you should see a small yellow plastic lever, which you should push upwards. The headlamp beams will then need to be checked on a beam-setter to ensure the aim is correct.

If the Fiesta does not have the projector-type bulbs, the cheapest option is to buy a Eurolites masking set, available here: http://bit.ly/2nx8aqi
