Rear brake tool

-

I'm having a problem in obtaining the correct wind-back tool for the rear brake’s hydraulic piston on my 2008 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI estate. The vehicle has been professionally serviced for all its life. Recently, I decided to change the brake pads front and rear and also the rear discs, which are badly worn. Armed with my trusty Haynes manual, I set about the job and had a real tussle at the rear, which looked as if it hadn’t been disturbed for years.

I have got everything off and fitted a new brake disc, but now I’ve found that the so-called universal wind-back tool I bought doesn’t fit this caliper piston. The pin spacing for my piston is 20mm and the tool collet caters for just two size: 32mm and 22mm. I doubt whether there are other collets available.

The tool that I have is branded Neilson and I got it from a car accessory shop two years ago. There are lots of these wind-back tools for sale but rarely do they state the pin spacings. Do you think its worth risking buying one of these sets which have lots of pieces, in the hope that one will fit my application? Or do you know of any equipment that would definitely do the job and is reasonably priced? Frank Bailey

According to the data I have, the Ford part number for the caliper wind-back adapter is 206-085. This tool is included in the Laser 4511 Brake Caliper Piston Rewind Tool Set which is available for around £30. Otherwise, an adapter which should fit your Neilson tool is available at the website http://bit.

ly/2bknxaq for a cost of €12.29, but I do not have the Neilson tool specification to guarantee this.
