Non-starting

-

Could you help with a friend’s Citroën C4? It is a 2006 1587cc petrol model that went into the garage after not starting, although the engine turns over on the key. The garage diagnosed that the injectors were not being supplied with voltage, but the wires from the ECU to the injectors were checked and confirmed to be good. The garage told my friend they did not know what was wrong and drew a blank as to how to repair it.

We have recovered the car to my home as we do not trust the garage. I have read the codes ‘261’, ‘264’, ‘267’ and ‘270’ (injector drivers?) and have drawn a conclusion that the engine ECU is at fault. ‘Fault 444’, which I get as ‘purge flow sensor circuit low’, also shows up now and again. I have asked BBA Reman for a price to repair the ECU.

Could you confirm my suspicions or suggest what else I can check, such as voltages, etc. I’d also appreciate advice on how to remove the ECU from the car – it is located under the bonnet in the front part of the fusebox, but the locating bolts are very difficult to access. Gary Coles

As the garage has checked the injectors and the connecting wires, I would concur with your diagnosis that you need to check the ECU. After disconnecting the vehicle battery and removing the three multiplug connectors on the ECU, the ECU and support bracket should slide out as a complete unit. Once out, the ECU can be unbolted by removing the two securing nuts. The company ecutesting.com will be able to test the unit for you and, if required, make any necessary repairs.
