Fuel filter

-

My son lives in Hastings but commutes to Wadhurst to work. His air-conditioning needs regassing. Can you suggest anywhere he can get it done in that area?

Also, I have a 2008 Citroën C3 1.6 diesel and I want to change the fuel filter. Is this a DIY job? And, if so, where is it located? CWB Beck

To answer your first question, I am afraid I have no personal experience of any garage in your son’s area that I can recommend.

Changing the fuel filter on your C3 should be within the range of a DIY mechanic. From the data I have, the fuel filter should be located at the rear righthand side of the engine compartment, fixed to a bracket on the back of the engine. To access it you will first need to remove the air pipes running from the front of the engine compartment to the inlet manifold at the rear. The filter is a black plastic component almost square in shape and the pipes are disconnected by pressing in the small release catches. There is also an electrical connection to undo before removing the filter. The filter slides up and out after pressing in the release catch.

Once the filter has been removed, the heater unit should be taken off and fitted to the new unit. The filter can then be fitted in place and the unions pushed back onto the filter. Next, the fuel system needs to be primed by hand using the primer bulb that should be located at the top centre of the inlet manifold – tracing the fuel pipe back should make this easy to locate.

Once the system is bled, check for leaks and then refit the air intake pipes before starting up.
