 Let’s be realistic here. To escape from a PCP, you have to be prepared to take one on the chin. You have to give up the perceived benefit of a new car, and you have to accept the money you’ve already thrown at it is gone for good. Over three years and based on the average PCP rate, that’s nine-grand flushed down the loo.

A PCP sounds cheap until you crunch the numbers properly, when suddenly a £250 Mondeo that will only really hit you (more of a gentle slap, really) in the pocket when it conks out and needs replacing.
