Steering wheel controls

-

My 2012 Land Rover Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 has developed a problem with the steering wheel controls. The left-hand side has radio and cruise control buttons, but only the radio one doesn’t work. The right-hand side operates the computer menu, and telephone and voice controls, but the telephone and voice control doesn’t work.

I can answer/end phone calls, tune and adjust the volume on the radio via the touch screen. The radio volume button on the steering wheel will work on very rare occasions.

Have you any idea what could causing this problem?

There are two possible reasons for the failure. The first is that both switches have failed and the internal contacts are poor. The second and more likely reason is that the clockspring squib ring that the circuits need to go through has failed.

The switches are available separately, as is the clockspring unit. The genuine coupling part is priced at £265 – but Rimmer Bros sell a compatible unit (part number LR018556P) at £108.

Before replacing any parts it may be worth using an aerosol switch cleaner such as this one, http://bit.ly/cm93swc which may help if the switches are at fault.
