Silent indicators

-

We own a 2009 Vauxhall Corsa D 1.4 petrol manual with 58,000 miles. The car starts and drives well and the indicator/side-lamps, etc, illuminate normally, but the sounder used to inform the driver that the indicators are on is silent. Also, there is no sound when I operate the hazard warning button, nor is there an alert to indicate the door is open when the ignition is on or when the car lights have been left on. Nothing has been worked on and nothing has been touched – it just stopped clicking and pinging. The car doesn’t have any fault lights on the dash.

I have checked parameters and the sounder is set at volume level 3. I removed the loudspeaker from the centre of the dash and checked this with a sound generator and it works fine. I have removed the car battery overnight and this has not resolved the problem.

I suspect there’s a faulty output transistor, but I have no idea where this is located. Is there something that can be replaced? We have a scrapyard nearby where I can search for a replacement. Would this replacement part need programming by a technician? Alternatively, can you recommend where to send the faulty item to be repaired? Andrew Nash

As you already know, the volume is adjustable by accessing the Parameters menu and selecting ‘P7’, after which the volume adjustment can be made for each key used in the vehicle. Because yours is set to level 3 but no sound is audible, and as you have checked the sounder unit, I suspect the fault is within the control unit. This is integrated with the dash pod and also controls the immobiliser, so if you were to replace it with another unit it would then need coding to the vehicle.

Having the unit repaired by ecutesting. com or a company that specialises in dashpod repair such as this http://bit. ly/2ijcx0k should rectify the problem without complex recoding.
