Here, the boot is masked up before it was given a coat of high-build primer. The masking used for primer repairs can never be used again for colour and lacquer – the car needs remasking and thoroughly cleaning before every stage to avoid masking lines and dust in the paint.

Again, this was a pretty successful repair and we’re pleased with how it has turned out. It’s tempting to cut corners with body repairs on old cars but this attention to detail is what will make our A4 Convertible a nice £2500 keeper as opposed to the plethora of tatty £1500 examples. 4
