Groupe PSA’S supermini from 2005 onwards was a badgeengineered project with Toyota that resulted in the Peugeot

107, Citroën C1 and Toyota Aygo. The three- or five-door hatchback is a nippy, agile city car that offers seating for four people and a modest boot that can even accommodate a full-sized spare wheel.

The 2007 model shown here is powered by the Toyota three-cylinder 998cc petrol engine (timing-chaindriven), which produces 68bhp and can return 60+mpg. Plus, its annual car tax is a mere £20. This engine was further revised in 2009 and in 2012 in a bid to reduce emissions, improve fuel economy and eventually qualify for free road tax.

Many of the servicing jobs are straightforward, as our photographs and steps show. Some are not applicable on our 107 – such as changing the pollen filter because there’s no fitted aircon. But for cars with a pollen filter, it can be accessed from inside the passenger footwell by releasing a cover.

Our recommended service schedules are based on information from Haynes, although they advise on a short engine oil change of every 5000 miles or six months if a vehicle is largely used for urban driving.

We also heard from several readers who own these cars, which helped us to

research some of the common problems associated with them. The exhaust system appears to be a weak point – especially the rear silencer, which can corrode excessively. And water ingress into the boot seems to be common, possibly caused by it leaking via the rear lights – see step 21 for how to remove them.
