LIMITED EDITION BMWs
Munich loves nothing more than a limited-run special, most of them spectacular
The new one BMW M4 Convertible Edition 30 Jahre (2018)
Somehow it’s been three whole decades since the heady days of summer ’88; Prost vs Senna, Testarossa in its pomp, the irst convertible M3. Celebrate by spending £76,675 on one of these, in blue or grey metallic paint, with loads of 30 Jahre badges and eectively the M4 Comp Pack tune for 444bhp.
The stupendous one BMW M5 Edition 30 Jahre (2015)
On paper, the 30 Jahre M5 was nothing special; alcantara rim for a steering system with revised electric powerassistance and an engine mildly tuned to 592bhp (39bhp up on the standard car). On the road, though, the 30 Jahre was sensational; rapid, engrossing and agile like a car half its size.
The slow one BMW 320si (2006)
The dream was a World Touring Car-inspired mini-M3 running high-revving four-cylinder power, just like the irst M3. The reality was a painfully peaky engine, a ferociously irm suspension tune, reliability horror stories, astonishing fuel consumption and wealth-stripping depreciation. Avoid.
The super-rare one BMW M3 Ravaglia (1989)
Quite simply, as good as it gets. Take the already brilliant E30 M3 – gorgeous chassis balance, grunty four-cylinder power, serious race pedigree – and add a big-bore motor, further chassis upgrades, smart Evolution II front and rear bumpers and, on 16 of the 25 Ravaglia cars built, Misano red paint.
